Day 29 | Ancestral Reconnection | Remembered
Amedzofe, Volta Region, Ghana
There is joy, dance, and celebration in the center!
This is Borborbor! — A traditional dance of the Ewedome people, an Eʋe (Ewe) culture born in the Center of the Volta Region.
Carried on a drum whose roots run deeper than the dance itself.
They are gathered here in Amedzofe — on the highest mountain village in the Volta Region. Home of the Kèdānị̄mà (Kedanima) people — the birthplace of humanity.
The Eʋe settled alongside them long ago. Different languages. Different histories.
But on this mountain, on this day — the same drum every Easter.
The drum is not background. It is a summons. It calls the ancestors into the present.
And somewhere in the sound of it —
The dance remembered us.
We were always held in the memory of our ancestors. The memory is the call to return.
