Day 3 — Awareness | Safe
On the Shores of Cape Coast Fort, Ghana
Some can feel it without me telling you.
And in the middle of all of it —Three children. One bicycle.
Completely unbothered.
Playing. Moving through it all like none of the weight exists for them yet.
There is something here about what we carry versus what we were born carrying.
I took this photo standing on the ground where the gravest crime against humanity took root.
Where the ships came.
Where the brutality of the taking passed through these shores.
And instead of only feeling the weight of that —
I felt safe.
Not in spite of the history. Not by ignoring it.
But because awareness — true awareness — cannot be held in the lie of its existence.
And standing there, I finally gave myself permission to believe what I always knew and never been allowed to say out loud.
That where we come from is not tragedy.
That where we come from is resilience.
That where we come from is love.
That what we have all inherited is a power that cannot be contradicted.
And those three children on that bicycle —
They already know. They never forgot.
52 days. 52 truths.
