Day 28 | Ancestral Reconnection | Grace

Adom Waterfall, Obosomase, Ghana

...

The 72 hours before I shot this video sitting at this waterfall was spent inside my biggest fear imaginable.

────

Alone. In Ghana. With no money.

I was on an overnight 16-hour bus ride from Accra to Tamale traveling across the country when I received notifications that showed two transactions that left my bank account completely empty.

An older woman sitting next to me in the most beautiful blue hijab looked at me and knew something was wrong. She asked me what happened. Through tears I told her.

She quietly placed her arms around me and said it would be okay.

Then she reached into her bag — a Ghana Must Go bag — in itself carrying the weight of a whole history in its weave — and placed a roll of cedi in my hand and told me not to worry.

She got off the bus before I made it to Tamale.

But she had already made calls ahead.

When I arrived in Tamale two women were standing there looking directly at me.

They grabbed my bags. They grabbed my hand. They walked me to the corner of the bus lot and stayed with me until my ride came.

I thought they were strangers being kind. They were not strangers.

They moved like they already knew my soul. They were sent.

The money given carried me through that weekend.

By Monday my bank resolved it. A glitch. The money was never actually gone.

After that my friend brought me here to Adom Waterfall.

I sat down. I put my feet in this water. And I released every fear I had ever carried around money. Around lack. Around being alone.

And sitting here I realized —

My ancestors are not only in the soil, or in the water—They are in the people—moving through living bodies-Coming to catch me before I fall.

These women were sent. Covered in grace. Positioned there before I knew I needed them.

I was never alone- I was held. In grace at Adom Waterfall —Grace was already its name.

52 Days. 52 Truths.
