Day 32 | Ancestral Reconnection | Our People

They already knew our story.

Even before I remembered it myself.

Greater Accra. Central Region. Ashanti Region. Volta Region. Northern Region. Ghana

Ten years. Five regions. The Ga people. The Fante people. The Asante people. The Ewe people. The Avatime people. The Dagomba people.

Different languages. Different kingdoms. Different corners of this land.

And every single time I stepped into their presence — something in the space already recognized me.

Not as a visitor. As family coming home.

I walked into the forts. The historical grounds. The sacred sites across this country. And the historians, the researchers, the credentialed guides who hold this knowledge — they were not simply telling Ghana's story.

They were handing ours back.

Because they knew. They knew we had been taught differently.

That our schools gave us a different picture. That we arrived here already conditioned — carrying lies about who we are, about what Africa is, about what was done to us.

And they met every single one of us who walked through those doors with the truth anyway.

Not because they were waiting for us to ask. Because they had been holding it.

What was taken from us was not just land or language or lineage.

It was the right to grow, to heal, to work through our own wounds — on our own terms, in our own way, rooted in our own understanding of ourselves.

That work begins when we come back. Not to a perfect past.

To the truth of where we come from.

The ancestors already knew this.

They have been waiting for us to remember it.

52 Days. 52 Truths.
